Sitting at work eating my lunch. The gym was a tough one day. But soo far I am running my 5k in under 36 mins not to shabby for a guy who only really started running 4 weeks ago. I have began to notice my weight loss slowing down. So I am planning on changing up my routine a lil bit to hopefully keep my body into overdrive. My diet is still going good even though I have been doing a lil more cheating than I should. Well unti next time.

5/19/2009

Ok, I haven't posted in a few days. I have been really busy with EMT school and trying to finish up stuff around the new house and also trying to maintain some type of a normal marriage. So far to date I have lost 30 pounds. now you might say "wow!" but when you were @ 27% body fat it really doesn't mean all that much. What is a big deal is my body fat % has dropped I am down to only 20%, still isn't where i want it to be but isn't bad from where i have come from. here is the deal, running running running. I hate running, i hate the idea of running be it out doors or on the tread mill, i am just not a fan. But the fact remains that it has been one of the key factors in me losing all the weight i have. If it wasn't for running i would probably be getting very discouraged and maybe on the verge of giving up. But I am seeing the results, not only in body weight but in energy. I feel better i feel like i am not always winded and most of all I am not exhausted 24/7 like i use to be. So for any of you that have read my first blog post. Http://www.coolrunnings.com is the website that has the couch to 5k running plan, I will admit, it seems so easy in the beginning but wait till about week 3 when u have to really push yourself as hard as you can. It is tough. Anyways i am working on putting together a lifting program that i am doing for the rest of you to maybe look at or try or modify. Keep in mind my program isn't for me to get bigger i want to get stronger and cut, so gaining muscle size isn't as important as muscle strength.

What am i going to do about work? how am i gonna do in class? am i going to have any free time to do anything at all with life other than drown myself in books and work? To many choices are being tossed my way and it is scaring the living crap out of me!

5/11/2009 better late then never

Well, I figured i would start this only as a way to track my progress and share it with anyone who wants to read it.

My name is John Hartman and at the beginning of the year i made the decision in my life to go to EMT/ Fire Academy. It was something that I had always thought about but never really jumped on for many many reason. One of the big ones is me not being in shape. So about 2 months ago i made the choice to get back into the gym and it was scary. My initial fitness check was bad 27% body fat, 259 pounds and with a history of family diabetes and kidney stones i made the choice that it was time to change it all. I wasn't always over weight, in highschool i played soccer and maintained a good physical ability. It wasn't till college i learned the joy and sorrow of late nite parties and that in a college town pizza places never close.

Well in the past two months i have changed my diet completely and been hitting the gym hard 5 days a week. And i got into EMT school so the next 3 months are going to be tough. But So far i have dropped 26 pounds and have decided to try and run a 5k race in the next 8 weeks by doing this program call  "from the couch to a 5k" if anyone is interested in checking out the program you can find it at www.coolrunnings.com, it is a great program designed for the beginning runner who wants to get into it. and lets face it we all know that running is the best form of cardio.

Through out the blog i will post my diet food s i am eating work out routines and anything else i feel might be necessary to help anyone else who maybe just needs a lil encouragement, i know that if not for my wife pushing me along this would be a almost impossible task.
