5/11/2009 better late then never

Well, I figured i would start this only as a way to track my progress and share it with anyone who wants to read it.

My name is John Hartman and at the beginning of the year i made the decision in my life to go to EMT/ Fire Academy. It was something that I had always thought about but never really jumped on for many many reason. One of the big ones is me not being in shape. So about 2 months ago i made the choice to get back into the gym and it was scary. My initial fitness check was bad 27% body fat, 259 pounds and with a history of family diabetes and kidney stones i made the choice that it was time to change it all. I wasn't always over weight, in highschool i played soccer and maintained a good physical ability. It wasn't till college i learned the joy and sorrow of late nite parties and that in a college town pizza places never close.

Well in the past two months i have changed my diet completely and been hitting the gym hard 5 days a week. And i got into EMT school so the next 3 months are going to be tough. But So far i have dropped 26 pounds and have decided to try and run a 5k race in the next 8 weeks by doing this program call  "from the couch to a 5k" if anyone is interested in checking out the program you can find it at www.coolrunnings.com, it is a great program designed for the beginning runner who wants to get into it. and lets face it we all know that running is the best form of cardio.

Through out the blog i will post my diet food s i am eating work out routines and anything else i feel might be necessary to help anyone else who maybe just needs a lil encouragement, i know that if not for my wife pushing me along this would be a almost impossible task.

  4. 5 minutes? What, do you run around the house for 3 minutes before hand? And Holly, was that a snide remark at the fact that I hate running?
